A tallboy is a timber chest of drawers built upward; a dresser is the long, low one. Goldenwood makes both in solid timber, with fronts from reeded and rope-moulded to flush and handleless. Every part of one can be customised: height and width, how many drawers, which timber, what finish.
What is the difference between a tallboy and a dresser?
Mostly height. The Byron, Freycinet, Madeleine and Colette Tallboys are each drawn 1,200 mm tall and 900 to 1,100 mm wide, and the Goulburn Lingerie Chest is a tall, narrow chest with long bar pulls. The dressers are long and low: the Rowan is 800 mm high and 1,500 mm long, and the Mudgee 900 mm high and 1,800 mm long, with a row of small drawers over wide full-width ones.
Much of the range comes in pairs. The Arden, Chantilly Classic, Ellington Classic, Langford, Charleston, Estelle, Wellington, Vera and Belmont each have a tall boy and a dresser of the same design, and each of those names also has a bed.

How are the drawers made?
The Camille shows the joinery: its case is joined by mortise and tenon, and its drawer boxes can be dovetailed on request. The Freycinet's and the Rowan's drawers run on full-extension runners, and the drawers close softly on the Byron, Madeleine, Freycinet, Rowan and Colette. The Freycinet opens by concealed shadowline finger pulls and has a felt-lined top drawer.
The fronts are where the designs differ: flush on the Byron, framed under a rope-moulded cornice with antique cup pulls on the Madeleine, reeded on the Scone, sharknose-edged on the Rowan, framed with brushed metal handles on the Colette. Runners and other moving hardware are guaranteed for the working life of the piece.
What timbers and finishes can a timber dresser come in?
Tasmanian Oak, a dense, pale-honey hardwood, carries most of the range. Spotted Gum, on the Rowan, is a tough Australian hardwood whose interlocking grain runs from pale brown to deep chocolate. American Oak, on the Ellington Classic Tall Boy and Dresser, is a pale North American hardwood with an open figure. The Goulburn, the Yass Long and the Parkes are made in the timber you choose.
The finishes are two-pack polyurethane in different looks: clear matt on the Byron and Rowan, walnut-tone matt on the Freycinet, satin in Light Almond on the Madeleine, ebonised satin on the Colette. Other species from the materials page can be ordered in for any of them.
How long does a tallboy take?
Usually 8–14 weeks, counted from the day you confirm the design, as for most catalogue pieces.

- Is a dresser the same as a dressing table?
