Factory Manager, Wetherill Park

Goldenwood is a Sydney family-owned business making custom furniture and joinery, including kitchens. We are looking for a hands-on factory manager to run our workshop at 6 Coates Place, Wetherill Park NSW: the weekly production schedule, quality, safety, timber and hardware stock, and a team of at least four workers. Full time, 5 or 6 days a week (flexible).

Duties

  • Manage the workshop team of at least four workers.
  • Plan and run the weekly production schedule.
  • Check quality before work leaves the workshop.
  • Run safety checks in the workshop.
  • Keep timber and hardware stock in order.
  • Train new workers in CNC operation and production assembly.
  • Work hands-on on the floor with the team.

Must-haves

  • Experience in cabinet making.
  • Understand CNC operation and production assembly well enough to train new workers.
  • Hands-on: you lead from the workshop floor.
  • Able to manage a team of at least four workers.
  • Our team works in Mandarin; English is a plus.
  • The right to work in Australia.
  • You live in or near Sydney now.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in furniture making as well as cabinet making.
  • English as well as Mandarin.

Pay: $45 per hour, plus super.

Hours: Full time, 5 or 6 days a week (flexible). Start date: as soon as possible.

Graduate Drafter (Pytha) and Director's Assistant

Goldenwood is a Sydney family-owned business making custom furniture and joinery, including kitchens. We run a paid graduate and internship programme, open to recent graduates and current university students. In this role you learn to draw our joinery and furniture in Pytha for our workshop, and you work beside our director, David, as his assistant, so you learn how the whole business runs. $35 an hour plus super, 3 to 6 days a week, flexible. Based at our workshop and office at 6 Coates Place, Wetherill Park NSW.

What you will do

  • Learn to draw our joinery and furniture in Pytha: 3D models, shop drawings and drawings for client approval.
  • Work from client briefs, architectural drawings and site measurements.
  • Prepare cutting lists, panel lists and hardware lists for the workshop.
  • Check dimensions, materials and hardware before a job goes into production.
  • Keep drawings up to date as a job changes.
  • As David's assistant: handle his emails, calls and bookings, and prepare quotes for him to check.

Your first week

  • Shadow David through his calls, emails and quotes.
  • Start learning Pytha on a real job.
  • Spend time on the workshop floor and follow one job from the drawings to the finished piece.
  • Learn our online portal: look up a job and enter an order.

By month 3

  • You draw joinery in Pytha and prepare shop drawings and cutting lists for checking.
  • You handle David's emails, calls and bookings day to day and pass him only what needs him.
  • You prepare quotes for David to check.

Where it leads

After the first 3 to 6 months, by your performance, you take on more of our drafting yourself: a pathway to a drafter role and towards a management role at Goldenwood.

Must-haves

  • A recent degree, or current university study, in interior, industrial or furniture design, architecture, drafting or engineering.
  • The right to work in Australia.
  • You live in Sydney.

Nice-to-haves

  • Any CAD software (we teach Pytha on the job).

In this role you learn to run our joinery jobs, from site measure to installation, and you work beside our director, David, as his assistant, so you learn how the whole business runs. $35 an hour plus super, 3 to 6 days a week, flexible. Based at our workshop and office at 6 Coates Place, Wetherill Park NSW, and out on sites.

What you will do

  • Go out on site measures.
  • Keep the job schedule: what is in drawing, in the workshop, ready to deliver and booked to install.
  • Order materials from suppliers and enter orders in our online portal.
  • Book installations, supplier pick-ups and deliveries.
  • Keep builders and clients updated as a job goes.
  • As David's assistant: handle his emails, calls and bookings, and keep the list of enquiries to follow up.

Your first week

  • Shadow David through his calls, emails and quotes.

  • Book a supplier pick-up or a delivery with David.

  • You book supplier pick-ups, deliveries and installations yourself.
  • You keep the job schedule up to date with David.
  • You handle David's emails, calls and bookings day to day and pass him only what needs him.
  • You keep the list of enquiries to follow up up to date with David.

After the first 3 to 6 months, by your performance, you run more of each job yourself: a pathway to a project manager role and towards a management role at Goldenwood.

What you will do

  • Prepare and send invoices.
  • Record customer and supplier payments, and follow up what is owed.
  • Keep the books up to date.

Joinery Project Manager, Wetherill Park

Goldenwood is a Sydney family-owned business making custom furniture and joinery, including kitchens, for homes and commercial clients. We are looking for a project manager to run our joinery jobs from site measure to installation, usually two medium-sized jobs at once. You will be based at our workshop at 6 Coates Place, Wetherill Park NSW, and out on sites. Full time, 5 or 6 days a week (flexible).

Duties

  • Run joinery jobs for homes and commercial clients, usually two medium-sized jobs at once.
  • Measure up on site.
  • Order materials and run procurement.
  • Book installations.
  • Be the contact for builders.
  • Keep clients updated as the job goes.

Must-haves

  • Experience in joinery.
  • A white card.
  • A driver's licence.
  • Your own car to get to sites. A company van is used for deliveries and pickups.
  • Our team works in Mandarin; English is a plus.
  • The right to work in Australia.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience on both residential and commercial jobs.
  • English as well as Mandarin.

Pay: From $35 an hour, depending on experience, plus super.
