From About

About Goldenwood

Is Goldenwood a family business?
Yes. Goldenwood Furniture is a family-owned workshop in Wetherill Park, Sydney. Cindy founded the business in 1988 and is its CEO; her son David is the director.
How long has Goldenwood been making furniture?
Since 1988: it has designed and built custom timber furniture and joinery to each client's brief ever since.
Where is the furniture made?
In Goldenwood's own workshop at 6 Coates Place, Wetherill Park, in Sydney, which shares its floor with the showroom.
From Pricing

Commissions and quotes

Why doesn't Goldenwood publish prices?
Every Goldenwood piece is made to order in our Wetherill Park workshop — nothing is held in stock, and no two commissions are the same, so we do not publish prices. What we can tell you is exactly what a quote is built from, how it is produced, when it locks, and what you pay at each stage.
What drives the cost of a custom piece?
Four things: the timber or board you choose, the size and configuration of the piece, the finish, and — for fitted joinery — site measure and install. We will not pretend to weight them for you on a web page; the point of the consult is to price your brief, not an average of everyone's.
When is the quote locked in?
You get a written, itemised quote — not a single lump figure — and it is valid for 30 days from the date we issue it. Once you confirm the design, that quote is locked and production starts. We only revise the price if you change the brief.
How long does a piece take to make?
Most catalogue pieces ship within 8–14 weeks of design confirmation, though that can vary with workshop load and timber availability. Larger commissions — fitted joinery, full kitchens — depend on scope, and we confirm a lead time as part of your quote.

Timber and finishes

What timbers can I choose?
American Walnut, Tasmanian Oak, Spotted Gum, Blackbutt, American Oak, Tasmanian Blackwood and Jarrah. Every timber on this page can be ordered in for a commission, and we can source others beyond the catalogue. A sample kit can be posted; the Showroom page has the details.
Does a two-pack polyurethane finish need oiling?
No. It needs no oiling or polishing: wipe it with a soft, slightly damp cloth and, if needed, a drop of mild soap, and avoid solvents and abrasive sponges. Most pieces, and every kitchen, vanity and built-in, leave the workshop in two-pack.
How often does an oiled finish need re-oiling?
A light re-oil every 12–18 months, or sooner on a heavily used dining tabletop. We tell you at handover if a piece was finished in oil.
From Showroom

Visiting the showroom

Do I need an appointment to visit?
No. The showroom is open seven days, 9:30am to 5:30pm, and you can walk in without booking. One of the team will walk you through the floor.
What can I see and touch at the showroom?
Timber sample boards and every finish, on a long flat tray. We work with over 50 timber species, and you can see and touch a finish before you commit to anything.
From Warranty · Returns

Warranty and returns

What does the warranty cover?
For 10 years from the date of delivery, we repair, at no charge, any defect in the joinery, structure or finish that arises from the way we built the piece. Hinges, runners and any other moving hardware we install carry a lifetime warranty: if one fails, we replace it.
Can I return a made-to-order piece if I change my mind?
Every piece is built to your specification, so we cannot accept returns for change of mind once production has begun.
