What makes the best dining tables in Sydney last decades?
From the Goldenwood workshop in Wetherill Park, family-owned and family-run, making custom timber furniture since 1988.
The best dining tables last because of the timber, the construction and the finish. A Goldenwood dining table is made in solid timber, built from start to finish by one maker, checked at 2 inspection checkpoints, and finished either in two-pack polyurethane or in oil that you refresh every 12–18 months.

Buying a solid timber dining table in Sydney
Goldenwood makes its furniture, dining tables included, in solid timber, and keeps engineered board for kitchens, vanities and fitted joinery. See Goldenwood's dining tables.
Its materials page lists 7 species: American Walnut, Tasmanian Oak, Spotted Gum, Blackbutt, American Oak, Tasmanian Blackwood and Jarrah.
The workshop works with over 50 timber species, and every timber listed on the materials page can be ordered in for a commission.
Every dining table can be customised to the brief, so the size, the shape and the timber follow your dining area instead of a standard dining table range.
Before the first cut, Goldenwood measures, draws and builds immersive 3D visuals of the table, with 2 design rounds included.
How the construction makes a table last
Each wooden dining table is built from start to finish by one maker in the Sydney workshop, with progress photos at each major stage.
Every piece passes 2 inspection checkpoints: one before finishing, for the structure, and one after finishing, for the final surface.
Solid timber moves with the seasons, and Goldenwood's warranty treats normal solid-timber movement as an exclusion rather than a defect.
The workshop blends traditional craftsmanship with modern tooling and buys from Australian suppliers.
Choosing the finish for a busy dining room table
Most pieces leave the workshop in a two-pack polyurethane finish.
An oiled finish is identified at handover, and a light re-oil every 12–18 months, or sooner on a heavily used dining tabletop, keeps the surface even and water-resistant.
Goldenwood's 10-year craftsmanship warranty covers defects in the joinery, structure or finish that arise from how the table was built.
The warranty excludes normal wear, misuse, impact, water, heat and harsh cleaning agents, so daily care matters for the long term.
Matching dining chairs and the rest of the room
Pieces that share a name share one design and can be ordered as a matching set, such as a dining table set with matching dining chairs.
Every piece in a matching set can be made in the same timber and the same finish.
The collection also includes sideboards, display cabinets, wall units and bookcases, so the whole dining area can be made in one timber.
Most catalogue pieces ship within 8–14 weeks of design confirmation.
Visit our showroom in Wetherill Park, open 7 days from 9:30am to 5:30pm, to see sample boards of every timber and finish.

- No. Normal solid-timber movement is listed as an exclusion in Goldenwood's warranty, alongside water, heat, impact and harsh cleaning agents.
- How do I care for a solid wood dining table?
- Wipe it with a soft, slightly damp cloth, use coasters for cold drinks and trivets for warm dishes, and wipe spills promptly. Keep it out of prolonged direct sunlight.
